Campus Interview Preparation Tips
Your level of preparation for your campus interview will be the deciding factor in your success or failure. Remember that it is better to be over prepared for campus interview in contrast to being under prepared. Because of the importance of interviews in this selection process, it would be a good idea to have "mock interviews" which will help you to deal with tough or unexpected questions.

Ø Conversations should be a balanced two-way flow of dialogue.

Ø It,s good to initiate the introduction and introduce yourself with a handshake and smile. If shaking hands is difficult, a quick head nod is a good substitute. Initiating the introduction with a smile and handshake (or head nod) helps build rapport.
Smiling when greeting people and at appropriate times greatly helps build rapport

Ø Visualize Your Best Self Introduction
"Your imagination is the preview to life,s coming attractions." -- Albert Einstein.

Ø Regular use of courtesy words-like "Sir, Please, Thank you, I,m sorry," and phrases is important to show politeness and build rapport.

Ø Making eye contact is important for building rapport. It gives the impression you,re interested and engaged in the conversation, and you have good self-confidence.

Group Discussion is a modern method of assessing students personality. It is both a technique and an art and a comprehensive tool to judge the worthiness of the student and his appropriateness for the job. A group discussion is a critical component of the campus placement process. It is a way for potential employers to learn more about the applicants, and it is an opportunity for applicants to stand out and shine. During the post placement phase, the applicants will be required to participate in a group discussion. The group will have 8 & 12 members who will express their views freely, frankly in a friendly manner, on a topic of current issue. Within a time limit of 20 to 30 minutes, the abilities of the members of the group is measured.

Prerequisites of a Group Discussion

• Topics given by panelists
• Planning and preparation
• Knowledge with self-confidence
• Communication skills/ power of speech
• Presentation
• Body Language and personal appearance
• Being calm and cool
• Extensive knowledge base related to state, country and globe.
• Areas are politics, sports, science &trade commerce, Industry and Technology, MNC, etc.

Are Women Good Managers?
Before discussing, who is a good manager? We shouldn,t forget that it basically depends upon the field. There are many fields that are amicable to man and some to women. So man and women both are good manager in their respective field.
The manger should have mainly these three main issues:-
1.Manager should have good knowledge of this field.
2. Manager should be a good leader.
3. Last but not least Manager should have ability to initiative.
These all qualities do not depend on sex of a person. Any individual can have these qualities and can be a good manager.
Is facebook boon or bane?
"Facebook is primarily a communication medium, so it will influence our communication and collaboration behavior"
we should know how to balance our lives with the technology for an effective means of communication.
Example:I consider it a positive thing The great thing about Facebook is that it allows people to keep in touch with one another easily. Of course, before Facebook there was email and telephones and letters, Facebook allows people to share details about their lives that they never would have thought to share. But Facebook is in many ways superior to all of those.
Comparison b/w Indian & foreign education system
First and foremost, as everyone knows Indian education system follows a theory based curriculum. Students are required to memorize facts and knowledge written in textbooks. In a way, Indian education system is still very much focusing on bookish knowledge instead of preparing students for future careers and jobs. Whereas, western education system stresses on educational flexibility, creativity and child’s interest. Western educational institutes’ treats imparting education as a learning process and believes in imparting practical knowledge to ready students for future.

Secondly, Indian educational system, unfortunately, has not changed much even after independence and is still following same set of obsolete rules when it comes to education as it was some 150 years ago. On the other hand, in the west, education system is changed as per needs and requirements of the present day world. Western education system is more liberal refined and advanced in its approach to teach children.

Tata Placement Paper : Reva institute of tech, blore ,15 March 2011

Hi Friends,

We actualy had our aptitude 1st folwd by pre-placement talk.the apti was quite ok.i can say it was a mere luck to me.it had three sections.its written test.1st was verbal then quants folwd by technical.
verbal-articles, prepositions, passages(2)

Quants-cubes, number codes, alphabetic codes etc, sorry I don,t remb much
tech-fo ec ppl-logic design, semiconductors, networks, uc, up nd fo c.s-it was frm al d subjects yo study in the whole engg

We had a pre placement talk wich was realy good.
Out of 120 students 48 cleard apti.dey had actualy bifercatd it into two groups-direct h.r nd h.r thru tech if yo score realy well in d tech section of yo apti yo sent directly to h.r nd i was 1 amng them. Believe me it was jus my luck.

The HR was realy friendly. She made me read a passage frm a newspaper, den askd abt my family background, abt myslf..to tel a unique character abt myslf, wich n al cmpany i had appeard b4,y did i nt get thru them. She askd me to ask any quesn...pls dnt say dat yo got no quesn, dey feel yo got no interest in dat cmpany, dats hw many had gt rejectd.

My friends had been thru tech, they were been asked with basics, small programs, abt the project, bubble sort, selection sort etc.

I got my results at 9.30,nd i found 1 amng d 27 selectd students...i had been rejectd at tcs nd tech mahindra. I had lost hopes aftr dat...bt i had lots of support frm my frnds nd family who boostd up my cnfidence nd I friend myslf in the best company I would have ever thought of one of the cmpany were I would work on my talent(designing).

Tata Placement Paper : Bangalore Institute Of Technology ,28 January 2011

Written round:
1. Verbal is very easy. The first 15 questions can be answered in about 30 seconds each. This is followed by two passages with 5 questions each (approx). I noticed the SECOND passage is shorter and easier to handle in many papers so i went for this first - it worked for me. The first passage was longer and harder to understand because it had lots of detail

2. Apti was simple enough. Remenber DO NOT SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON THINGS YOU DONT KNOW. Its easy to get carried away. If you dont know the answer mark "C" - this is the safest bet based on reliable sources.

3. The tech section - Electronics was filled with BASICS only. Nothing out of the world but since electronics is a vast domain even simple questions can seem strange. Here is what i did:

a. Went through OpAmps - Basics properties , Basic circuits- inv amp, non-inv amp, anv and non-inv summer, difference amp, log, antilog, differentiator, integrator, schmidt trigger. Understand the diagram and working. This study was helpful as qone question was from Opamp and my understanding helped me solve it. Dont break your head over derivations and stuff.

b. ADC, DAC types, resolution, advantages, number of components (comparator etc). Again understand the diagram and working. This is important so please do not skip.

c. Basics of digital electronics : Gates, simplification, sequential components, mux, demux, encoder, decoder etc. Just make sure you know what each does, how it works, truth table. We had few questions from simplification.

d. Microprocessors : I learnt the bare basics of 8085 and 8086 but it didnt help me in the test. The questions were from interrupts but they were answerable.

e. C - two questions were from C. The images of stars and planets swarmed my thoughts (im bad at C). Since questions were from C i marked C as answer . Haha.

f. DSP: I learnt basics such as why dsp, why DFT, why FFT, simple problems. No dsp question was present in the written test.

The above topics will help you a lot in the tech interview as well.

I was very lucky - I was shortlisted for direct HR interview so escaped the technical round.
The HR was very sweet and straigntforward. She asked me to read a passage (from a sheet) aloud. I was stopped abruptly and asked to summarize. I was asked about hobbies and stuff.

Remember - Do not words like DONT KNOW, I,M BAD AT THIS etc. Avoid negative sentances and words. Mask them with - I NEED TO IMPROVE, THIS AREA HAS SCOPE FOR DEVELOPMENT etc. Practice a positive attitude for a fey days before placments. Thing positively and avoid speaking negatively - this always helps!

Prepare for two Strengths and Weakness. Remember when you are asked for strengths the HR is thinking - "why should i hire this person?" and when asked weakness the HR thinks "why should i reject this person". So use weakness which will not eliminate you as a candidate.
Most Important:

If you are not selected please do not get disheartened - IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. I have an aggr of 85% and was rejected by the TCS HR though i have good communication skills. Its just luck or absense of it sometimes which decides your selecton/rejection. Dont be hard on yourself, get over it soon, think as to what went wrong and prepare for the next company.

Tata Placement Paper : DDU Nadiad Gujarat. ,2 May 2007

1 written test.
2 technical interview.
3 hr interview.

it was off campus here at ddu nadiad and it was for computer , EC and electronics...on first day there were written test . in that there were 4 section and there was NO Negative marking and about 50% Sectional cutoff

in written test,
1,English section 20 questions and 20 min.
it was easy means if you know basics of articals then no need to worry.

2,Aptitude section 20 q. and 25min.
it was of simple calculations , cube problems , and 5 logical reasoning it was mediam

3,Calculation section 25 q. and 25 min.
it was simplest q. like @=0 and $=1 and then covert 25 into binary and represent it with this symbols
then 1233465 1233465 1233466 find out odd one .
So it was very easy...........

4,technical section 30 q. and 30 min.
In this there were separate papers for CS AND EC. i am from CS so in this there were q. from c ,c++ ,networking ,few from operating system, and many from data structures.. so be well prepare for data structures and networking .....

they declared result at 4:30 and the technical interview of about 30 students was on that day itself. while for other 35 it was on next day morning.....

IN TECHNICAL
only one member was there on starting he told me to give resume
then told me to list out subjects i studied ..
then he asked many q. from networking means what are uses of networking?
what is subnet ? about class of ip address...
then asked from c and c++ means diff. between structure and union ?
from array and linked list ....some from pointers ...
and at last he asked from opetrating sys. but i told him about my project so he didnt asked much from os.
and finally one mem told me that you are selected for HR round and you have to be present on tom. morning 9 .

HR interview
Mostly they dont discard people from this round because the technical was very tuff so be confident and tell any thing means wheather it is true or false .IN my intreview there was one mem who asked me in a very good way that i was very relax

Tata Placement Paper : RV Institute of Management,Bangalore ,17 February 2007

TATA ELXSI PAPER ON 17th FEBRUARY AT BANGALORE

hi avinash here...got placed in tata elxsi ..the selection procedure was for 2 days..17th and 18th feb. 2007
i guess around 800 people appeared for the test....on the first day they shorlisted around 170 people based on the written test whose format ill give below..

the next day was the interview (technical and hr).

NOTE:1. make sure if there are negative marks or not..its by merittrac...so never been neg marks till date...many of my friends lost out on this as they dint mark answers which they were partly sure of..

2. papers are given for the allocated time only ..times up and u gotta start the next...so u ve to be quick in some sections.

ok first written test format: the total duration is 100 mins and 100 questions in all.

1. verbal ability: 20q-20mins
this is pretty simple...completing sentences...usage of articles...if u r naturally ok in english it wont be a problem at all..the passages were pretty stupid but not very simple...so try to get as many q as possible..cant do much about others but guess..no harm as no negative marks...

2.analytical ability: 25q-30 mins(not v sure..forgot)
this is a section where go for all the easy q first...many of them r tricky...so dont try to go for all..unless u r a brain or something...u can go thru some basic book like rs aggarwal....questions will be on venn diags...cubes..trains...boats n streams...etc...nothin unexpected...try to get as many as poss....the rest u can guess....

3.Attention to detail: 25q-20 mins
this might be irritating but just chill....and do this section lightly...all based on common sense...no preparation needed...questions will be on the symbol interchanging(eg: they give an expression and say * stands for +,-stands for / ,and so on....and u gotta calculate the new value) ...but dont take it casually as well...again try to do as much as possible.

4.Engineering subject (electronics/computers) : 30q-30 mins
this is where most of them lose out . im from ece so had electronics paper . here just give it ur best shot n wait for final results .if ur knowledge is good and ur guesses r right...no probs...anyways the various topics they touch upon are: network analysis...cmos logic...semiconductors...microprocessor(this is imp)...vhdl..etc...basically just brush through all imp subjs u ve studied till date and go confident...u will most probably not get all.... i scored 13 out of 30 in this section so that was good enough i guess though i think i was pretty ok in all the other sections.

now interviews:
Techical:
all about ur specialisation . tata elxsi is known to filter out many students based on this....so go well prepared to face them confidently even though u might be just average in ur subjects....but be pretty strong with the basics they are not expectin u to remmember all the muggin formulas...equations..etc...u can always say u dont recollect them now...but if u explain the logic well...ur through....he asked me logic design...vhdl...vlsi..microprocessors....microcontrollers...

some of my friends were asked screwing c and c++ questions inspite of being from ec background so beware of that...though probabilty is less...

FLOWCHART SECTION
Directions: There are 7 flow charts and each has 5-6 blank rectangles/diamonds with
sub question number in the rectangle/diamond. You have to fill the blank from the
5 options given against respective question number

NOTE: These types of questions are not at all tough. You have to understand the logic and then it is very easy to fill the blanks. Some information is provided for getting to the answers. There will be blanks which have to be filled.

Examples of flow charts asked to be filled :

(1) There are 3 boxes of 3 balls each. you have to select the heaviest among all.

(2) There are red and black balls in a box. You select some balls from the blocks. If the ball

(3) chosen is red then you get one point. If the chosen ball is ball black and previous ball is red then you get two points. For winning u have to get seven points. No point for selecting consecutive balls of the same color.

3) Classify objects in class A, class B and scrap. for classing you have to do different tests such as weight test, material test etc.

(4) There is production process in which action depends on temperature and pressure and we have some temperature and pressure controls. Draw a flowchart to complete the process.

(5) Find max. and min. of the 12 nos. in an array. Arrange the array in ascending order and find the maximum and minimum value in the array

(6) Different age group are given and also different salary slabs are given. Depending on the salary group as well as his group you have to classify the group of people in particular class.
