New Life Children’s Home invites application for the position Computer Instructor

The Computer Instructor is responsible to enhance the overall educational experience of the children at the children’s home This professional will improve children’s computer literacy by conducting training and activities utilizing technology and computers In addition, he/she will work with the coaching teachers to help them incorporate technology into their lessons This professional will work hand in hand with the children’s home team to oversee the effectiveness of the computer programs implemented at the home and its impact on all children.



Responsibilities of the Computer Instructor:
• Teach computer courses and activities to children in Kindergarten up to 12th standard as per schedule
• Incorporate a variety of activities into the lessons while teaching For example, discussions, debates, games, project based learning, etc
• Evaluate and grade students’ performance in the laboratory For example, level of computer knowledge, projects completed using computer programs, papers, assignments, etc
• Share constructive feedback with the children and children’s home team
• Tutor students on an individual basis as needed
• Support coaching teachers to incorporate technology into lessons
• Conduct group training sessions with children and staff as needed
• Prepare the room and computers for use before each class
• Attend to the proper shut-down and storage of computers
• Supervise use of computer equipment during lab hours
• Ensure internet is used properly and safely
• Complete other general tasks regularly, such as tracking attendance, assigning projects, evaluating students’ work and performance, and providing feedback to children at all levels of technological understanding
• Maintain inventory of the computer lab by keeping track of computer equipment and items needed.

Share inventory details with the children’s home team regularly
• Create a safe, fun, and organized classroom environment
• Remain up to date on current research in the field of technology and educational technology in India and around the world
• Facilitate implementation of special programs which utilize technology as needed For example, English as a Second Language computer software
• Encourage and support children to participate in technology related exhibitions and events conducted at the school

Preferred Qualifications:
• Degree in Computer Science and/or Education
• Experience teaching computer science, specifically with government schools, private schools, and/or rural education
• Experience implementing computer activities and/or programs based on research and proven theories
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and educational software for children
• Knowledgeable about computer hardware including installation and operation of CD-ROM’s, printers, scanners, projectors, speakers, and other peripheral equipment
• Well-informed in proper and safe use of the Internet
• Experience teaching and working with children of all ages and abilities
• Knowledgeable about computer syllabus followed in the schools attended by children
• Up to date on current research in the field of technology and education technology in India and around the world
• Expertise in child development, specifically has an ability to develop lesson plans that are designed based on children’s developmental needs (social, emotional, physical, and cognitive)
• Familiar with effective classroom management techniques
• Ability to speak English and Telugu.

New Life Children’s Home located in the Indian state of Telangana, New Life was founded in 2006 by Mr. Vinay Kumar Arepally, who was raised in a government-run hostel and had a very difficult childhood. After completing his master’s degree in Sociology, Mr. Vinay began planning to establish a children’s home to care for local children in need. He conducted an initial survey in his district and found that migration in the area was very high due to lack of employment opportunities and scarcity of water & food. Many parents abandoned their children or left them behind with their grandparents to find good jobs. The results of his survey caused an urgency in Mr. Vinay, to help these children by establishing New Life children’s home.
New Life is situated in a rented building surrounded by a supportive community. The home has four rooms, a kitchen, a store room, four toilets and two bathrooms on the ground floor. Mr. Vinay and his wife, Sarita, together provide loving care for the 48 children at the home.
