Purpose of your roleAs the Software Engineering Lead for B2B eCommerce you will work with global, multi-functional, teams to support the strategic development of our self-service B2B eCommerce Magento platform This new digital channel will eventually support $6+ million of annual revenue from across the world Your key focus will be leading and being a subject matter expert for a team of Software Engineers, who will deliver against a backlog maintained and refined by the Product Owner You will also collaborate on solution design / implementation with our Magento Architect as we continue to expand the capabilitiesOur core platform technology is based on Adobe Magento (v2) which is integrated with our standard up-stream Elsevier sales, customer and product management systems (inc.

Salesforce Sales Cloud), and down-stream order management / fulfilment engines New and enhanced functionality will leverage Magento 2 capabilities as much as possible and you will be working on the most appropriate lean, creative and optimal application of standard configuration and modular extension to meet business needs over bespoke development complexityYour success will be measured by delivering a robust, scalable, and maintainable platform that marries efficiency with speed and flexibility to address fast evolving business needsYour key accountability and responsibility
  • Line manage the development team: hire and coach brilliant software engineers and help them to develop their careers with regular 121s, feedback and coaching and perform annual reviews
  • Accountable for turning prioritised backlog items into released features.

  • Work closely with Product Owner and development team members to understand complex product requirements and break them into small work tasks that can be progressed in the agile Sprints
  • Responsible for providing product and technology expertise when scoping complex work
  • Accountable for ensuring up to date, appropriate platform documentation is available and knowledge sharing is enabled
  • Responsible for maintaining metrics to ensure agile delivery excellence and continuous improvement
  • Responsible for the definition, creation and evolution of delivery dashboards for business stakeholders.

  • Successfully implement and manage development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews
  • Ensure the team has the support, training and resources needed to perform their jobs to the most outstanding degree possible

  • Able to strike the right balance between using out of the box functionality vs customisation.

Recommended experience
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering
  • 2+ years of experience leading development team
  • Coordinating with other internal development groups and third-party development vendors
  • Expert knowledge of Magento 2 with demonstrable experience in delivering enterprise scale eCommerce capability
  • Related development experience with within a complex heterogenous eCommerce environment.

  • Proven ability to manage and resolve complex technical challenges in a platform context
  • Deep understanding of Magento's capabilities (inc multiple sites/stores/views, cross-selling capability, currency and tax, subscription-based and digital products, promotions/trials/bundles, etc)
  • Experience of Magento's B2B functionality.

  • Robust knowledge of Magento Plugins and their effective selection from the Marketplace and/or custom design and implementation
  • Extensive experience in the effective integration of Magento with other up/down-stream business systems (inc inventory/product feeds, payment gateways, fulfilment chains, CMS, etc)
