Scholarships for pursuing post graduate studies (MA / MSc) In mathematics for the academic year 2019-20
The National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM) invites applications for the grant of scholarshipsto students pursuing studies leading to a masters degree in mathematics.
Eligibility : Only candidates belonging to one of the following categories are eligible (even to appear for the written test): Students who have either completed or expect to complete by end of July 2019 all requirements for a recognized BA / BSc degree in mathematics, with cumulative marks 60% or more (or equivalent).
Students who have either completed or expect to complete by end of July 2019 all requirements for a recognized BA(Hons) / BSc.
(Hons) degree in mathematics, with cumulative marks 50% or more (or equivalent) Students who have either completed or expect to complete by end of July 2019 three or four years of a recognized five-year integrated masters programme in mathematics, with cumulative marks 60% or more (or equivalent)
The Scholarship : Successful candidates will receive a scholarship of Rs 6,000/- (Rupees six thousand only) per month, during the two year period of the post-graduate programme (or the final two years of the five-year integrated masters program).
The scholarships are sanctioned for one year at a time and are renewable at the end of the year, subject to satisfactory progress Students selected for the award of the scholarship when in the final year of the MA / MSc.

Application Fee : An application fee of Rs 300 (along with applicable collection charges) needs to be paid online at the time of the application .
It is the responsibility of the applicants to ensure their eligibility to appear for the written test: application fee once paid cannot be refunded, even if the applicant is deemed ineligible
Selection Procedure : Selection will be on the basis of a written test followed by an interview Candidates will be short-listed for the interview based on the performance in the written test

NBHM usually meets twice a year, to discuss its programmes and various proposals received from its board members as well as from mathematicians all over the country. It has six sub-committees viz. the Research Programmes Committee, the University Programmes Committee, the Mathematics Olympiad Programmes Committee, Nurture Programmes Committee, Examinations Committee and Library Grants Committee. They consider proposals, throughout the year, for financial support for varied mathematical activities, from institutions and individuals. Decisions of NBHM are based on the recommendations of these committees. The responsibilities of various committees are described in Annexure I. NBHM normally provides financial support only to Indian nationals and institutions. Currently NBHM grants postdoctoral fellowships, Ph. D. scholarships, M.A./M.Sc. scholarships for research/education in mathematics. NBHM provides financial support to the Mathematics Olympiad activity, run in collaboration with the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, for students at the junior college/high school level. NBHM provides financial support for holding conferences/seminars/workshops and instructional schools. Granting financial support to libraries of mathematics departments of universities and research institutions in the country is one of the major activities of NBHM.
