What needs to be set right is our approach to work. It is a common sight in our country of employees reporting for duty on time and at the same time doing little work. If an assessment is made of time they spent in gossiping, drinking tea, eating "pan" and smoking cigarettes, it will be shocking to know that the time devoted to actual work is negligible. The problem is the standard which the leadership in administration sets for the staff. Forgot the ministers because they mix politics and administration. What do top bureaucrats do? Directions for Questions 11-15: Read the passage and answer the questions that follow on the basis of the information provided in the passage.
The existence of mammals on the earth can be traced back to at least the Triassic time. The rate of development was retarded, till evolutional change suddenly accelerated in the oldest Paleocene. This resulted in an increase in average size, larger mental capacity, and special adaptations for different modes of life, during the Eocene time. Further improvement was seen during the Oligocene Epoch, with the appearance of some new lines and extinction of others. The Miocene and Pliocene times are especially significant as they mark the culmination of various groups and a continued approach toward modern characters. It is in the Miocene time that the mammals reached their peak with reference to variety and size.

The ability of the mammals to adapt to various modes of life finds a parallel in the reptiles of the Mesozoic time, and apart form their greater intelligence, the mammals apparently have not done much better than the corresponding reptilian forms. Undoubtedly the bat is a better flying animal than the pterosaur, but at the same time the dolphin and whale are hardly more fish like than the ichthyosaur. Quite a few of the swift-running mammals inhabiting the plains, like the horse and the antelope, must excel any of the dinosaurs. Although the tyrannosaur was a more weighty and robust carnivore than perhaps any carnivorous mammal, the lion and the tiger, by virtue of their superior brain are far more efficient and dangerous beasts of prey. It is significant to note that various species of mammals gradually adapted themselves to various kinds of lifestyles, some took to grazing on the plains and were able to run swiftly (horse, deer, bison), others started living in rivers and swamps (hippopotamus, beaver), inhabiting trees (sloth, monkey), burrowing underground (rodent, mole), feeding on flesh (tiger, wolf), swimming in the water (dolphin, whale, seal), and flying in the air (bat). Human beings on account of their superior brain have been able to harness mechanical methods to conquer the physical world and adapt to any set of conditions.

Such adaptation to different conditions leads to a gradual change in form and structure. This is a biological characteristic of the youthful, plastic stage of a group. It is seen that early in its evolutional cycle animals possess the capacity for change, but as the animal progresses in its cycle becoming old and fixed, this capacity for change disappears. The generalized types of organisms retain longest the ability to make adjustments when required, and it is from them that new, fecund stocks take origin-certainly not from any specialized end products. With reference to mammals, we see their birth, plastic spread in many directions, increased specialization, and in some cases, extinction; this is a characteristic of the evolution of life, which can be seen in the geologic record of life.

Accenture Placement Paper : Accenture Interview Tech Interview 2012

Which is the parameter that is added to every non-static member function when it is called?

Answer: ,this, pointer

What is a binary semaphore? What is its use?

Answer:

A binary semaphore is one, which takes only 0 and 1 as values. They are used to implement mutual exclusion and synchronize concurrent processes.

What is thrashing?

Answer:

It is a phenomenon in virtual memory schemes when the processor spends most of its time swapping pages, rather than executing instructions. This is due to an inordinate number of page faults.

What are turnaround time and response time?

Answer:

Turnaround time is the interval between the submission of a job and its completion. Response time is the interval between submission of a request, and the first response to that request.

What is data structure?

Answer: A data structure is a way of organizing data that considers not only the items stored, but also their relationship to each other. Advance knowledge about the relationship between data items allows designing of efficient algorithms for the manipulation of data.

List out the areas in which data structures are applied extensively?

Answer: The name of areas are:

Compiler Design,
Operating System,
Database Management System,
Statistical analysis package,
Numerical Analysis,
Graphics,
Artificial Intelligence,
Simulation

What are the major data structures used in the following areas : RDBMS, Network data model & Hierarchical data model.

Answer: The major data structures used are as follows:

RDBMS - Array (i.e. Array of structures)
Network data model - Graph
Hierarchical data model - Trees

What is the data structures used to perform recursion?

Answer: Stack. Because of its LIFO (Last In First Out) property it remembers its ,caller, so knows whom to return when the function has to return. Recursion makes use of system stack for storing the return addresses of the function calls.

Every recursive function has its equivalent iterative (non-recursive) function. Even when such equivalent iterative procedures are written, explicit stack is to be used.

Predict the output or error(s) for the following:

void main()
{
int const * p=5;
printf("%d",++(*p));
}

Answer:

Compiler error: Cannot modify a constant value.

Explanation: p is a pointer to a "constant integer". But we tried to change the value of the "constant integer".

main()
{
char s[ ]="man";
int i;
for(i=0;s[ i ];i++)
printf("\n%c%c%c%c",s[ i ],*(s+i),*(i+s),i[s]);
}

Answer:

mmmm
aaaa
nnnn

Explanation:s[i], *(i+s), *(s+i), i[s] are all different ways of expressing the same idea. Generally array name is the base address for that array. Here s is the base address. i is the index number/displacement from the base address. So, indirecting it with * is same as s[i]. i[s] may be surprising. But in the case of C it is same as s[i].

main()
{
float me = 1.1;
double you = 1.1;
if(me==you)
printf("I love U");
else
printf("I hate U");
}

Answer:

I hate U

Explanation: For floating point numbers (float, double, long double) the values cannot be predicted exactly. Depending on the number of bytes, the precession with of the value represented varies. Float takes 4 bytes and long double takes 10 bytes. So float stores 0.9 with less precision than long double.

Rule of Thumb:

Never compare or at-least be cautious when using floating point numbers with relational operators (== , >, <, <=, >=,!= ).

List out few of the Application of tree data-structure?

Answer: The list is as follows:

The manipulation of Arithmetic expression,
Symbol Table construction,
Syntax analysis.

List out few of the applications that make use of Multi linked Structures?

Answer: The applications are listed below:

Sparse matrix,
Index generation.

In tree construction which is the suitable efficient data structure?

Answer: Linked list is the efficient data structure.

What is the type of the algorithm used in solving the 8 Queens problem?

Answer: Backtracking

In RDBMS, what is the efficient data structure used in the internal storage representation?

Answer: B+ tree. Because in B+ tree, all the data is stored only in leaf nodes, that makes searching easier. This corresponds to the records that shall be stored in leaf nodes.

Whether Linked List is linear or Non-linear data structure?

Answer: According to Access strategies Linked list is a linear one.
According to Storage Linked List is a Non-linear one.

Accenture Placement Paper : Accenture Coimbatore 16 October 2012

Accenture had come to my college on the 16th and 17th of October, 2012. The eligibility criteria was an aggregate of 6 cgpa (60%) and above with no current arrears.

To start off we had the aptitude test. I had read many reviews on Indiabix.com before going for the interview and to be honest the pattern was almost exactly the same as described by others. The test was conducted online and was for 60mins, consisting of 55 questions with no negative marking.

It had three sections, English, analytic abilities and attention to detail.

However there was an extra bit - an essay at the end of the online test.

English - passages were time consuming but the trick was to search for the matter that was relevant to the question asked rather than read the entire passage. The same passage appeared for alternating questions so if you keep reading it again and again you will be wasting time. Apart from this they asked antonyms, synonyms and basic grammar.

Analytic section - was mostly questions on Venn diagrams such as teacher-student questions and other simple questions. No questions from allegation or streams or trains or anything came. Cube questions were present such as if a cube is painted and then cut into x pieces how many pieces will be paint free on all four sides ...

Attention to detail had general questions such as a set of rules are given; based on these rules would you give admission to a student with given set of criteria. One thing about this section is that towards the end there are a lot of substitution problems which take lot of time. Best solution would be to solve these first.
eg. if + is / and * is + and / is * then which option is correct

After this, we were given a paper and were asked to write a short essay in 5 minutes. The topic given to us was "Education in India".

I was sure of clearing this test and hence wasn,t surprised when my name was called out. After this, we had pre-placement talk for those who had passed the test.

The next day we had the technical and HR interviews. There were 11 panels for HR and 9 panels for technical.

In technical they asked me about OOPS concepts and concepts such as operator overloading, function overloading, difference between string and string buffer and other simple questions. Some people were asked to write small programs such as Fibonacci and swapping numbers and some got problems involving pointers.
After this I was asked to explain my final semester project. Do not get into technical terms just explain the overview of the project.

After technical interview, those who did not clear were asked to leave and the others were taken for the HR round. In HR I was asked about what I think makes a good team player. Many people were asked to tell the panel what they knew about Accenture and its values. Check their site to find out the values and other details. After this they asked me for my location preference and then the interviewer asked me if I had any questions. I replied that the pre-placement talk was very informative and had answered all my doubts and so I had no questions. This answer impressed the interviewer. Do not make the mistake of asking silly questions at this point.

After this, I had to wait till all the interviews were over after which the list of selected students were called out. Thankfully, my name was included in the list. We were then informed that an offer letter would be sent to us within 40 days.

Overall, not much preparation was required but what was necessary was focus, understanding, a cool mind and confidence in front of the interviewers.

Hope this helps those of you who are going to attend interviews in the future. Good luck to all of you.

There were 4 rounds:
1.Aptitude:English grammar,quantitative, subtitution of symbols,essay
2.GD
3.Technical
4.HR

In detail....

17/9/10:

1.Aptitude:
There were some 4 fill in the blanks(very easy),2-3 synonyms,then 2 reading the passage
1 long(topic:hologram), 1 short( topic was pattern recognition)..then there were some 4 more grammatical questions. Im not an expert in english but still believe me this will be very easy only thing is u shd revise parts of speech.. i used school std grammer buk..then comes aptitude(i seriously hate it) but still it was easy.. use r.s Agarwal its gud.. q,s were from ages, alligation n mixtures,probability,venn diagrams, family relations(2-3 q,s were ther),calender,clocks n some more topics. Then comes the most easiest part odd man out...ex: question wud be....
a) 1284566678
b)1234566678
c)1284566878
d)1284566678
n ask u whtr they r similar or not or if 2 r similar.. something like dis...ul get 5 q,s of this type.
then a puzzle giving many relationship then ask u 2 do some calculation(time consuming) then symbol subtitution in wch u wud get smethin like...if + is %,- is # then a#(b%d(f#g)) where a,b,d,f,g are so n so...

NOTE : PLS DON,T TAKE IT LIGHTLY.IT VL BE DEFINITLY EASY IF U DO SOME PRACTICE.

Finally an essay to be written in 5 min.. my topic was Indian politics. Try to put some saying here and ther, n write some gud points i.e u need not write unnecessarily 1 full page..evn if u write half a page tat shd b effective...then u can easily clear .n eassy topic vl b tld at d end..
